Yr7 Leadership trip.

Today we created a tour using google tours and google earth. My tour is about the year seven leadership trip to Tolaga bay/Cooks cove.I think next time i need to talk very clearly so others can understand the trip properly. Overall I think this tool is quite cool I highly recommend it.

The Problem With Palm Oil & The Orangutans

Native to Africa, Palm oil is one of the most used product daily, world wide. 

What is palm oil?

Two types of oil can be produced. Crude palm oil comes from squeezing the fruit, & palm kernel oil which comes from crushing the kernel or the stone in the middle of the fruit. Oil palm trees are native to Africa but were shifted to South-East of Asia just over 100 years ago as a tree group. Now, Indonesia and Malaysia make up above 85% of the world's supply but there are 42 other countries that also produce palm oil.

The problem.

Palm oil is produced in a way that is harmful to the environment.Which causes global warming. Between 2001 and 2010 Indonesia generated up to 268 million tonnes of carbon emissions. When Forest a lost that releases carbon. 

Orangutans 

Our forests are lost for the space for palm oil plantations. 

Many animals, more likely Orangutans pay the of this product. Orangutans lose their Habitat and home. 10.8 million hectares of the Orangutans habitat is lost because of the craze of palm oil!

The effect towards our health.

Palm oil is 100% fat! Which can be harmful towards the cardiovascular health.If we have too much of it. Cardiovascular health, (relating to heart or blood vessels). Which can increase the risk of death from the disease. It also contains vitamin E and red palm oil contains antioxidants called carotenoids which our bodies convert into vitamin A!

If I were you I would minimize how much of this stuff we buy with palm oil in it!

-Lip stick -Packaged bread

-Pizza dough -Soap

-Margarine -Biofuel

-Instant noodles -Tooth paste

-Ice cream -Detergent

-Shampoo -Chocolate

-Cookies -Moisturizer
